20 SECONDS OF WORK, 10 SECONDS OF REST...8 ROUNDS!

Tabata for CrossFit Kids: 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds rest...8 rounds! I explained to the young athletes in my Advanced CrossFit Kids class that we were going to do Tabata Pushups. Which meant they only had to do pushups for 20 seconds and then they got to rest for 10 seconds, 8 times. The responses I heard were “That’s it?”, “Easy”.

The kids worked through all 8 rounds, some feeling fatigued after round 3, and others did not start to feel the burn until round 6. But one thing ALL the kids felt the next day...SORE!!!

COACH, I THINK I'M INJURED

One of my girls, who is a competitive soccer player, thought she had “injured” her arm. She was not sure what this “pain” was she felt in her arms. Her mom had to explain to her that this was what soreness felt like.

Yes, we all got a few laughs out of this, but this athlete and her mother realized that although this girl was an accomplished soccer player, the movements and exercises performed in our CrossFit Kids classes are utilizing muscles that may not get worked during soccer practices and games. Being a part of CrossFit Kids is helping her to grow stronger, improve her ability to perform on the soccer field, and be an all-around better athlete!
