Tabata: 20 seconds of work, 10 seconds rest...8 rounds! In my Advanced CrossFit Kids class we did Tabata Pushups. One thing ALL the kids felt the next day...SORE!!! CrossFit Kids helps young athletes grow stronger, improves their ability to perform in their sport, and be an all-around better athlete!
I can’t express the emotions that come over me when I give cues to children, and I watch them perform a perfect CrossFit movement. I get goose bumps every time one of my young athletes stick their thumbs in the air and then place their thumbs on their shoulder.
In all of my classes I stress that our main goal is to MAKE FITNESS FUN! So when the boys in my middle school class asked if we could play Ultimate Frisbee, I couldn’t set up the cones and goals fast enough! The game had turned out to be more intense and physically demanding than any WOD we had programmed for them.
CrossFit Kids is not simply a scaled down version of CrossFit, it is entirely and absolutely CrossFit geared toward kids and their specific developmental needs. We want to inspire kids to develop a lifelong passion for fitness. The benefits of a program like CrossFit Kids can be long lasting for children, both physically and mentally, and it is a great activity for children to get into at any age.
Youth sports have changed dramatically over the years, with more athletes specializing in one sport from an early age. Some question whether the increase in youth sport-related injuries is due to sport specialization.
